New Year

Happy New Year  – Bonne Année 2006!
Yesterday marked the end of a year that is probably going to go down as one of my most eventful ones.

Personal retrospect
This year I changed country and continent of residence (France to Australia), changed jobs and employer (twice) and got married (once – I stopped looking once I’d found Isabelle), extended the family (adopted 2 aussie cats), bought my internet domain name (had to put a “-web” in there because all the renet[dot] somethings were already taken), to Isabelle’s dismay bought another computer (a great Apple Powerbook G4) and still to Isabelle’s great dismay got to do too much geecky stuff!

WordPress and blogging
Just in time for the New Year I rolled out my new web site design, inspired Michael Heilemann’s great Binary Bonsai web site. I also did several upgrades to WordPress version 1.5.1, 1.5.2 and finally 2.0. I’m also hoping to be able to roll out K2 (by Michael Heilemann and Chris J Davis) once I’ve tweaked the css to my liking and once a stable version is out.

Conclusion and outlook for 2006
I hope 2006 will be just as eventful but hopefully in a different kind of way. I want to travel more on this side of the world (I say this because for the time being we are temporary residents and you never know when a good thing is going to end – so make the most of it). Hopefully it will also be a year of reunion, virtual or physical. Obviously there is no such thing as seeing people in the flesh, but sometimes you have to make do with what you have! And for that I have the internet. I posted a “message in a bottle” a while back to try and find old school friends again. Slowly but surely it’s starting to work – just at the end of last year – Galia contacted me via my website. I hope others will follow this year…and who knows maybe some will make it down under (n’est-ce pas Manu!).
