Into the blue yonder

photoThe wild blue yonder…not in the aquatic sense here. I was just trying to find a catchy title for this post and into the blue sky didn’t come across too well. I say blue (sky) because it seems that, that is where these pictures are taking you.

About these pictures…I’ve received some nice comments and enquiries regarding the header that I chose to use on this site. I say enquiries, because it seems that some people prefer to use the contact form rather then post comments to ask a question - which I find a shame. So I’ll take this opportunity to say that you don’t have to lurk - don’t be afraid, drop a comment, good or bad (renet@web is in a state where freedom of speech is allowed!).

Anyway back to the point about the header picture. The author of that picture is an Australian photographer named Chris Potter. His work and that of other great photographers can be found on the stock.xchng web site, which has a boat load of awesome royalty free pictures.

choice1 The picture I chose was not my initial choice. At first I wanted to use the one shown on the right, but I then found that Marco van Hylckama was already using it for his site. Not to worry, the author of that shot had more great compositions to offer.

choice2I finally set my sights on this one on the left, which I think blends even better in the site.

You can see Chris’ profile and other great pictures from him on stock.xchng.

Hi Pascal and thanks for the reply! Ive been a big follower of the stock exchange since… well since its launch I think, and I agree it’s an amazing website. Infact I used one of their photos from an unknown author for the masthead of my company, EyePlot Digital’s website a few years back (located at http://www.eyeplot.com). Ive never heard of Chris Potter until now however and I have to admit being most truly impressed with his work. Infact I may certainly use some of his stuff soon myself… Cheers mate!

    Hey Steve,
Glad to have introduced you to that great photographer. The picture you chose for your blog is a good choice.

This is a totally awesome site design. I love it! Thanks for not using the same image I’m using by the way ;-)
I’ll be changing it soon though. As soon as I live in Sweden (I’m relocating) I’ll try to shoot some breathtaking scene and use that shot. While the ‘road to nowhere’ is a fabulous shot it’s always bothered me that…. I didn’t shoot it myself!

Thanks for the comments Marco…it took me a bit of time to redo the graphics with the new picture, but I think it was worth it - it also enabled me to discover new image manipulation tricks.
Can’t wait to see what picture you’ll put up on your site.
