After almost 5 good an trouble free years of service, I felt it was time to retire my trusted Canon Powershot A40. It wasn’t really on the agenda but a couple of days ago whilst perusing the DSE (Dick Smith Electronics) store in Victoria Gardens shopping centre I cam across the Canon Digital Ixus i Zoom. The price tag was AU$ 199. I thought that this was kind of odd since it usually retails for AU$ 300+. I went home and checked out a few places on the internet and sure enough the prices I found for it ranged between AU$350-410!! So I went back to DSE today and bought it (lucky me they had two left).
Now for the downside to this story…The Ixus i Zoom ships with a 16Mb memory card. So I bought a DES brand 1Gb card. I managed to take a couple of pictures with the DES card and then started getting a memory card error. What the f*** I thought, this is a brand new card (or is it?). I slotted the card in a car reader and what do you know the card was almost full with some Nike commercials and some mp3 music files (thank you very much). I tried all sorts of things, but to no avail – the card was and is dead. It has a lifetime warranty so I’ll get it changed tomorrow.
As for the camera (in the meantime with the 16Mb card) so far, so good. I’m very happy and impressed with what I’m seeing. Anyhow, here are the specs of it (a review of it is available at dpreview):

That is some specifcation, but I am sure it will be well used I remember you always seem to have your camera with you even at work! I also purchased a new digital camera, I opted for the small and very thin Sony DCS T7. It was well used during our Vegas trip this Spring, very good outdoor pictures but the flash is not high powered enough for anything but close-up indoor pictures. It has already been replaced by a new model the T9, personally I prefer mine!! :-)
